“A Word of Encouragement to Law Enforcement”

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.  Matthew 5:9

*** AS TO THE LORD ***

The job of a peace officer is never an easy one. From in the heat of the moment, split second decisions to the methodical, calculated approach to achieving departmental goals or deadlines and everything in between, an officer's job is tough. This is only amplified in times where our profession as a whole is scrutinized justly or unjustly at the hands of the media or public. It's easy to become jaded, disgruntled or hopeless when your focus is shifted onto worldly circumstances and not what God calls us to do.

In Ephesians 6:5-8, we are reminded that we are to work for those over us, not to please men, but to please God and to do His will. Paul reaffirms this in Colosians 3:22-24, calling for us to serve with sincerity of heart and fearing God. When it's difficult to serve, it's okay to feel the weight of it all and cry out to God. In Matthew 26 Jesus struggled with what God was calling Him to do, calling out to the Father in the Garden of Gethsemane. But He gave Himself to the Father's will in service and sacrifice for all mankind, knowing the greater good that would come.

With a maintained focus on doing all things in service to God, we can thrive in the profession we have been called to do. Following in the foot steps of our Lord in greater service than ourselves.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank you for calling me into the service of your kingdom as a peace officer. May you anoint the work of my hands and prepare me for what is to come with each passing day. In difficult times, let me remember that You are with me and that I serve you above all else. May you make me efficient and effective in all of my duties. Watch over me and keep me safe, in Jesus Name, amen.

Your brother,
- Dave M.
