Promise of Salvation
- John 20:31, “but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”
I haven’t taken the time to count them myself but, those who have, say the Bible contains thousands of promises from God. That makes sense, since the Bible has often been described as God’s love letter to humanity.
John 20:31 is one of those promises. It is God’s affirmation. It’s His loving assurance of life through faith in Jesus.
Take a moment to consider what this verse is saying. It clearly states that the purpose of John’s Gospel, and really, the purpose of Matthew, Mark, and Luke as well, is that we would believe, and in doing so, we would have life.
John explains that he was given the privilege of recording Jesus’ signs, miracles, service, and love so that you and I would believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. This belief goes far beyond simple mental acknowledgment; it is a belief that must reach the very core of our hearts.
Pause today and let this truth sink in: God wants you to believe in Jesus, not as an obligation, but as a doorway to life; we call that salvation. When you place your trust in Him, you stand on a promise that never fails. Yet, we must take caution. This promise is conditional, notice the words, “that you may believe.”
Have you believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God?
Yes:
Then you can stand firmly on the promise that you have eternal life in His name.
No / Not yet / Not sure:
Remember, this promise is conditional – you must believe. We urge you not to wait. Call on Jesus today and stand on this promise.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise of life through Your name. Help me to believe deeply in You, not just with my mind, but with my whole heart. Remind me daily that Your Word is a love letter meant to draw me closer to You and into eternal life. Amen.
Your brother in Christ,
-Henry
