Promise of Salvation
- Romans 5:9-10, “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
Can anyone be given a greater example or demonstration of the meaning of God’s true love (agape love)? Our verse above promises ultimate salvation and deliverance from God’s wrath. What Paul the apostle, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, is describing to us is how God the Father looked upon humanity (who was in a fallen state due to Adam’s disobedience) and said to His only begotten Son Jesus, I need you to go unto humanity and be the perfect sinless sacrifice in order to save them from their fallen state.
Jesus was willing to demonstrate His undying love for us through His sacrifice on the cross. Upon that cruel and torturous instrument of death and punishment, God’s promise of redemption would have its final completion. He fulfilled what the law could not do since the law only brought to light man’s sins and his deserving punishment. However, through the cross, Jesus accomplished the following promises of redemption:
Justification by Blood:
Jesus' death on the cross satisfied God's wrath, by bearing the penalty for our sins, thus making justification for our sins.
Reconciliation:
God reconciled Himself with humanity through the death of His Son while we were His enemies.
Saved by His Life:
Since God the Father completed our salvation through the power of Christ's resurrection to eternal life, we, as believers, having put our hope in Him (Jesus) now have eternal life thru Christ’s resurrection.
Paul’s statement was clear. If God did the harder work (by dying for enemies to reconcile them), He will surely do the lesser work of blessing us to bring others to this saving grace, that we have received thru Christ.
I was once told if I don’t share the hope I have in Christ with unbelievers, it would purposely condemn them to eternal punishment. For me, this is not an option, sharing Christ is my greatest of joys, especially when others come to that eternal promise as well.
