Promise of Salvation
1 John 2:2
"And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world."
Of the many promises made by God, salvation is, without any controversy, the greatest and most important.  In our verse today, Scripture is telling us that Jesus Christ is the ultimate atoning sacrifice (propitiation) for our sins, not just for believers, but for everyone. It is showing God's immense love and offers forgiveness and a remedy for sin. From the very beginning, when the human race inherited their sin nature through the fall of Adam and Eve, God prophesied of Himself defeating death.

Some may ask, "Why Jesus, His Son?" The answer lies with the idea of eternal life.  The death of an ordinary man would not have the power to provide eternal life.  The only sacrifice that could qualify as a satisfactory sin offering for the sins of the world would be a perfect God Man, Jesus.

The whole human race was without hope due to being born with a death sentence because of their inherited sin.  This inherited sin nature was the wall separating man from God.  While man may attempt to appease God through various ways such as religion, and good works, none would satisfy Him.

I thank God that He made a way for us through the blood of the Son, Jesus our Lord.  As believers, we are called to share this truth joyfully.

Your brother in Christ,
- Abel
