Psalm 16:11, "You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
There are times in my life where I feel that I can over-complicate my walk with God. There are times where I can truly miss the point of what my relationship with Jesus is supposed to be. Like a lot of people, I tend to be an overthinker and there are always questions that pop into my head when it comes to being a Christian. Am I trying too hard? Am I trying hard enough? Am I trying in the right areas? Lord, am I right with you today?
Throughout many years of being a Christian, I have found that over time my flesh and the enemy will cause me to become unhealthily fixated on questions like that and the stress can become overwhelming to the point where it becomes a burden and takes the joy out of my relationship with Jesus. Now don’t get me wrong, all of those questions are good to ask yourself to make sure you’re staying the course and not living in sin, but when they become your obsession, they will make you blind to your purpose.
When your walk becomes focused on ANYTHING else other than Jesus, you will miss out on your purpose. Remember that your purpose is simply to be in fellowship with the God that created you. That’s why this verse says, “In Your presence is fullness of joy.” To have consistent joy in your walk, keep your focus on simple fellowship with Jesus. It’s not about works, it’s not about overthinking, it’s not about trying on your strength, but it’s about spending quality time with the one who loves you beyond compare. When your walk is focused on simply seeking Jesus and being led by the Holy Spirit, joy is not hard to come by.
Love you all,
- Randy
