Psalms 147:7, “Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praises on the harp to our God,”
A few days ago, as our family sat around the dinner table my wife began to share a little about her childhood. She recalled that one year as Christmas approached, my wife, her brother, and mom had nothing. When she said nothing, I thought she was talking about Christmas presents, etc...however, we were in for a shock as she continued. As her voice cracked and tears flowed from her eyes, she told us of how they had no food to eat. They were hungry! Then, on Dec 24, her dad showed up. “I was so happy,” she exclaimed with a big smile.
As I thought about what it must have been like for her and her family, I immediately thanked God that my kids have not known hunger on that level. I thanked Him for all He has done for us, and most of all, I thanked Him for saving us - one day there will be no more hunger!
John 4:24, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
For a brief moment in time, I knew what it was like to worship in spirit and truth. I love worship time at church. But this song of praise was from the heart and required no words.
I am not one to say we should be thankful that we aren’t as bad off as another poor soul, but, at the same time, I do believe we have so much to be thankful for in this country. If you know Jesus, you have so much more to be thankful for.
Lord, thank You for saving me from sin and death. You are such a good, good Father.
Your brother in Christ,
