Psalm 23:1, "A Psalm of David. The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want."
The Bible often refers to God as a Shepherd, Jesus said in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep." David had been a former shepherd boy who had been called to put his life on the line for the sheep. He recalled going up against the lion and the bear, having no doubt that he would succeed. We know of his confidence and faith when he went up against Goliath without any fear.
The reason for his faith is that he knew that God was with him and that God was enough to defeat any giant. This verse tells us that if we have God, we will lack nothing in our lives. We should know that Jesus is all that we need for any situation. We should also know that without the Lord we will never be satisfied in this life.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:6, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, or they shall be filled." So, when you’re filled with Christ you will not be in want. We know that is contrary to the world’s thinking, as we can see people looking for contentment. Even some Christians seem to be unhappy, believing the lies of the devil, that are in want.
Paul wrote in Philippians 4:11, "Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content."
This doesn’t mean he was never hungry or thirsty, or at times suffering. What it means is that his contenmentt came from Jesus Christ. If your contentment comes from this world, know it is temporary, if it’s from God, it is Everlasting and Eternal.
Your brother in Christ,
- Abel
