1 Samuel 17:45, "Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.'"

The Bible is filled with wisdom and prophecy. As I read my way through, this verse stopped me in my tracks.

I can imagine young David, a youth at the time, standing before the giant Goliath, a man of war. David was given Samuel’s armor, a helmet, a coat of mail, and a sword. But David was unable to walk, so he removed the armor and sword. Instead, he took his staff, five smooth stones, and his sling to face the impossible; knowing the name of God would give him victory.

David removed the armor, donned the armor of God, and faced the giant. David was faithful to God and knew He was on his side. It was no coincidence that David found five smooth stones which included the one stone he needed to defeat the giant Goliath. God was with David the entire time.

This can be applied to the enemy’s attacks and temptations we face every day. No matter what worldly armor we use to protect ourselves from the enemy it will not fit. We must seek God and wear His armor in His name to face our “giants.” This verse was so powerful and overwhelming to me as I read it. I was immediately reminded of a point in time when the enemy’s attacks were fierce, I needed protection. I sought out God’s protection and He answered with truth and love. Trust that all we need is the name of God and any giant will fall.
