Psalm 10:1, "Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide in times of trouble?"
On occasion, it seems like the Lord is far away and taking His sweet time not rescuing us out of trouble. Our watches aren’t synced up and the sense of urgency we feel doesn’t match His. If you’ve ever felt that way then you’re not alone, and maybe you feel that way now.
In those times of trouble, it’s appropriate to ask some questions –
Do I have any unrepentant sin in my life?
Am I harboring unforgiveness?
Am I being complacent in my daily devotions?
Am I neglecting my spouse or family?
If the answer is yes to any of those questions then I have a starting point to work from; to get back on track and draw closer to the Lord.
If the answer is no, then the Lord has decided to "withdraw" from me for a while; but I can take confidence in knowing that He always has a reason for the season. No matter how short or how long. He never forsakes us, and He's always present, but at times He seems silent.
Looking back on some past seasons of trouble and loneliness, I can now see that the Lord was working behind the scenes to skillfully orchestrate all the details; to win my trust and find purpose in my pain. But how easily we forget that He’s never abandoned us yet.
It’s not my watch that’s out of sync with God’s, it’s my heart and mind, and if those are aligned, then it doesn’t matter how much time He takes, because it will all be sweet, knowing I’m fully trusting, obeying and sitting at His feet.
Amen!
